Bespoke Modular Steel Switchroom for a Major UK Shipping Port

Project Complete

Schneider Electric approached ADE to deliver a purpose-designed modular enclosure to support a critical power distribution upgrade at a major UK shipping port. Working closely with Schneider’s engineering team from the outset, ADE developed a fully bespoke steel switchgear enclosure engineered to accommodate their distribution and control equipment alongside all required auxiliary systems.

The completed module measured approximately 7 metres long, 4.3 metres wide, and 4 metres high, and was designed to achieve a 60-minute fire rating. Internally, the unit was fully fitted with small power and lighting, earthing, forced ventilation, dehumidification, intruder detection, and fire detection to ensure safe, compliant, reliable operation in a demanding port environment. Base cable entry points were incorporated to suit Schneider’s switchgear configuration, while an integral pressure relief vent provided an additional layer of safety during fault conditions.

Given the enclosure’s coastal deployment, ADE applied a robust C5M paint finish to deliver maximum corrosion resistance and longevity. Following fabrication and paint, Schneider’s engineers installed their switchgear panels into the housing at our premises, enabling a streamlined and controlled factory acceptance testing (FAT) process prior to the unit being dispatched to site.

The completed switchroom now supports the replacement of transformers at two key substations within the port and underpins the operation of a commercial EV charging hub. This project further demonstrates ADE’s precision engineering capabilities, and the benefits of collaboration in delivering reliable, fully integrated switchgear housing solutions.
